About Us
Hilweh Market is more than a shop—it’s an act of cultural resilience. Every piece we carry is a living expression of Palestinian identity, heritage, and creativity, sustained in the face of erasure. Founded in 2019 by Yaffa local Adrieh Abou Shehadeh, Hilweh Market was born from a deep desire to reclaim cultural space for Palestinians and Arabs in the heart of historic Hilweh Street in Yaffa. Rooted in the belief in of our agency to change our lived realities, our mission is to honor the past while building a vibrant and creative future for Palestinian creators and designers.
After noticing the growing gap between Yaffa’s rich cultural history and its changing commercial landscape, Adrieh envisioned a space where Palestinian artisanship could flourish once again. When moved into the Old City of Jaffa, we became one of the first Palestinian-run businesses to open there since 1948—a small but meaningful step toward reclaiming a visible presence. Expanding into a café alongside the boutique felt natural: an invitation for locals and visitors alike to experience Palestinian culture through both taste and tradition.
Today, Hilweh Market is a dynamic hub where heritage, art, and community come together. Our boutique offers a curated collection of handmade housewares, textiles, and contemporary items created by over 40 Palestinian artisans, including women-led cooperatives and emerging young designers. As a social enterprise, we work with these artisans to bring you the finest in Palestinian design. Our products are made with care and intention—each piece a testament to the skill, creativity, and resilience of Palestinian culture. In our café, we continue the vision of handcrafted precision through our signature Hilweh Blend coffee, new takes on traditional homemade drinks like Tamerhindi and Hibiscus (“Yaffa Sunrise”) all made in house, and served in hand crafted Palestinian glass and ceramics. Together, our offerings create an atmosphere of warmth, resilience, and identity all while countering forces of disenfranchisement and co-optation.
